Suffering from bad breath or halitosis can be very embarrassing and frustrating. Bad breath may be caused by a variety of factors such as certain health conditions, consumption of certain foods and poor oral hygiene. Irrespective of its cause, bad breath needs to be addressed but the first important thing to do is identify what is causing it.
Your mouth can start smelling bad due to the growth and spread of bacteria from the food particles left after eating or plaque that has built up on the surfaces of your teeth, which were not removed by brushing and flossing. Apart from this, certain bodily conditions may also contribute to the occurrence of bad breath.
If the cause of your bad breath is a dental condition, then maintaining good oral hygiene can control its occurrence. The following tips may help you get rid of your halitosis problem:
- Take extra time to brush and floss longer. You need to ensure your mouth gets a thorough cleaning and in order to do that, you need to spend time to make sure your brushing and flossing are effective. Do not forget to brush twice a day and floss at least once a day.
- Use an anti-bacterial mouth rinse to kill harmful bacteria and to get fresher and cleaner breath.
- Don’t skip cleaning your tongue while brushing. Your tongue is one of the many places in your mouth where bacteria can harbor so you have to make sure you brush it well using a soft bristled toothbrush.
- Visit our dental practice regularly for checkups and professional dental cleaning
